Dieses BLOG ist eine kooperative Plattform zwischen der Freien Universität Berlin (Dahlem Humanities Center) und dem Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin. Das BLOG begleitet die vom 05.06.-27.09.2015 im Museum stattfindende Ausstellung Black Mountain. Ein interdisziplinäres Experiment 1933 – 1957 unter Leitung von Prof. Dr. Eugen Blume und Dr. Gabriele Knapstein und das Forschungsprojekt Black Mountain Research (2013-2015) unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Annette Jael Lehmann, Freie Universität Berlin.

Wir verstehen das BLOG als integralen und prozessualen Bestandteil des Lern-, Forschungs- und Ausstellungsvorhabens, das jeweils Bezug auf das Black Mountain College – der von 1933 bis 1956 bestehenden Kunsthochschule im amerikanischen North Carolina – nimmt. Die Vorhaben und Projekte umfassen zudem Symposien, Universitätsseminare, Publikationen sowie das von Prof. Arnold Dreyblatt initiierte und von mehreren Kunsthochschulen mitgestaltete Begleitprogramm zur Ausstellung Performing the Black Mountain Archive. Als work in progress entwickeln wir hier ein facettenreiches Kaleidoskop von Beiträgen, die sich mit den historischen wie aktuellen Dimensionen des Black Mountain College auseinandersetzen. Das Blog Black Mountain Research nutzen wir daher als ein experimentelles Forum des gemeinsamen Arbeitens, Schreibens, Archivierens und Sich-Austauschens von StudentInnen, WissenschaftlerInnen, KünstlerInnen und KuratorInnen aus den unterschiedlichen Institutionen und beteiligten Projekten. Aus diesen Formen des Austausches und der Zusammenarbeit sollen auch Impulse für neue Forschungsfragen, Kooperationen und edukative Praktiken der beteiligten Bildungsinstitutionen entstehen.

Das BLOG bietet zudem grundlegende Informationen zu den Events, Symposien und Seminaren im Umfeld der Ausstellung. Es dokumentiert sowohl mit Texten, als auch mit Fotografien und Videos die Arbeit des Projektes, die Ausstellung und alle weiteren Events. Ergänzend werden ausgewählte Quellen und visuelle Materialien zur Geschichte und Wirkung des Black Mountain College vorgestellt. Black-Mountain-research.com soll schließlich die Besucher der Ausstellung ebenso wie eine breite Öffentlichkeit ansprechen und ist grundsätzlich offen für die Beteiligung von allen Interessierten.

This BLOG is a cooperative platform between the Freie Universität Berlin (Dahlem Humanities Center) and the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin. The BLOG digitally accompanies the exhibition Black Mountain. An interdisciplinary experiment 1933 – 1957 that is curated by Prof. Dr. Eugen Blume and Dr. Gabriele Knapstein and takes place at the museum from the 5th of June to the 27th of September 2015. It is also a platform for documentation and extension of the research project Black Mountain Research (2013-2015), which is directed by Prof. Dr. Annette Jael Lehmann, Freie Universität Berlin.

We consider the BLOG an integral and processual part of the educational, research and exhibition project, referring each to Black Mountain College – the American art school existing from 1933 to 1956 in North Carolina. Moreover, the projects and undertakings include symposia/conferences, university seminars, publications and the accompanying program Performing the Black Mountain Archive, initiated by Prof. Arnold Dreyblatt and co-created by several art academies. As continuous work-in-progress, we are developing a multi-faceted kaleidoscope of contributions negotiating both Black Mountain College’s historical and its current dimensions. We thus use the blog Black Mountain Research as an experimental forum, in which students, scholars, artists and curators from different institutions and participating projects are working, writing, archiving and exchanging ideas collaboratively. These forms of exchange and cooperation seek to give impetus to new research questions, collaboration, and educational practices of the participating educational facilities.

Moreover, the BLOG provides basic information about events, conferences and seminars surrounding the exhibition. Publishing texts, images and videos, it documents the exhibition and all other events related to the project. It introduces selected archival sources and visual materials on the history and the influence of Black Mountain College. Black-mountain-research.com aims to address the exhibitions’ visitors and a wider public, as well as it welcomes contributions by everyone interested.
